THE PARISIAN-STYLE BATHROOM
…« Parisian women are inexplicable ! »
wrote Honoré de Balzac in the Imaginary Mistress in 1842. The French writer was well aware that Parisian women are unique. From Juliette Gréco to Simone de Beauvoir, Coco Chanel and Brigitte Bardot, their elegance and irreverence has always stirred the imagination of people everywhere and what if this mystery, this « je ne sais quoi », found its source in their bathroom ?
« Paris is a party! »
wrote Ernest Hemingway in 1920 when he moved to the French capital, the Eldorado of artists from all over the world. At the time, the penniless young author was living on nothing but love and wine, but what did it matter? He was staying in the most beautiful museum in the world: Paris. Every day, the residents of Paris are in contact with exceptional paintings, statues and architectural marvels made by the human hands of fashioned by man.
No wonder then that Parisian women develop an innate sense of elegance after growing up in these extraordinary streets.
To understand this, one need only wander along the banks of the Seine, past the booksellers on the right bank, and then cross over the Pont des Arts and head towards the French Academy.
Continue on up the rue Bonaparte to the church of Saint-Germain-des-Prés, sit outside at the Café de Flore and order a coffee. If you cross the Place Saint Sulpice, you might just catch a glimpse of Catherine Deneuve in her conservatory.
And Jacob Delafon draws its inspiration from the magic of these places.
